Dyeing for Socks

A lot of indie dyers go overboard when dyeing sock yarn with highly contrasting colors on the skein. However, when the yarn is knitted up to a tube, the pooling of the colors when knitting in the round can make the socks looks distorted and psychedelic. I find the yarns with the almost solid colors make the most beautiful socks even though the yarn looks boring on the skein.

So last weekend, I dyed a bunch of yarn for the sock machine. Some lucky souls are going to have a pair scrumptious socks for Christmas!

These colors came from the Summer sampler from ProChem. The colors are Iris, Sea Breeze and Key Lime

and Cantaloupe, Watermelon and Sun Yellow
