Dyeing Is a Lot of Work

I spend the entire yesterday afternoon and all of today dyeing yarn for socks. It takes a lot of work to dye and I have a new respect for dyers. A hand dyed skein of yarn is expensive, but in addition to skill and experience, it takes a lot of time and the dyer deserves that money for a well dyed skein of yarn. It equates to minimum wage and no one is going to get rich doing this kind of work.

I’m quite pleased with the result. Of course, I might get color pooling and the socks might be hideous, but I won’t know until I crank them. The base yarn is wool2dye4 cashsock (90/10/10 Merino, Cashmere and Nylon) at 435 yard per 100 gm.

The pastel series…

The almost black series…
